Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a type of procedure performed on the abdomen area. A small camera called an endoscope is inserted through small incisions to perform surgery in a much less invasive way. In some cases, laparoscopic surgery can replace conventional surgery for both treatment and diagnostic purposes.

What are the benefits of laparoscopy for veterinary surgery?

Laparoscopy has numerous benefits:

  • Less invasive than conventional surgery and reduced postoperative pain
  • Reduced risk of complications or infection at the incision site
  • Reduced of bleeding and complications during the operation
  • Shorter hospitalization

Can all abdominal surgery be performed by laparoscopy?

The science on laparoscopy is continually evolving, and the list of laparoscopic surgery continues to grow every year. Currently, we are not able to perform all of abdominal surgery using this method. Determination depends on various other factors as well: your pet’s overall health, size and the surgeon’s experience with these kinds of procedures.
