What is veterinary cardiology?

Veterinary cardiology is a branch of veterinary medicine that involves the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in animals (a condition that affects the heart and blood vessels).

What are the different forms of heart disease in cats and dogs?

There are different forms of heart disease that can affect a pet’s cardiovascular system. Among these are cardiomyopathy, heart valve abnormalities, pericarditis, congenital heart disease, arrhythmia high blood pressure and hyperthyroidism.

Heart disease often starts with a long asymptomatic period, followed by the sudden onset of symptoms. It is often chronic and progressive.

What are the signs of heart disease?

  • Cough
  • Restlessness while resting
  • Weakness
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Rapid breathing while resting
  • Distended belly
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Losing consciousness
  • Etc.
