Microchipping

Hôpital vétérinaire de Chambly offers microchipping services, giving you an extra tool to help you locate your lost or runaway pet.

What is microchipping?

Microchipping is a procedure where a veterinarian inserts a microchip under the animal’s fur. The microchip contains an identification number associated with the pet’s owner contact information. With this information, a lost pet can be identified and returned to its owner.

Is a microchip dangerous or painful for my pet?

Not at all. A microchip contains no harmful materials and is the size of a grain of rice. It is inserted under the animal’s skin using a syringe—the same sensation as getting vaccinated. Your pet will feel a slight discomfort for a few seconds, but that’s all.

Why should I microchip my pet?

  • Your animal can be found more quickly in the event it gets lost or runs away.
  • Any organization with a microchip reader (most veterinary clinics, shelters, kennels and SPCAs) to identify your animal if found.
  • Unlike a collar or tag, a microchip can’t get lost or wear out.
